Female leaders in finance say it’s easier to reach the top, but challenges remain

They’ve broken through the glass ceiling, taking on executive level posts at banks and financial services organizations and yet, many women still struggle to see themselves as worthy.

That’s the ongoing challenge for women at the top in the financial industry, where men still overwhelmingly make up the workforce among senior leaders. But that doesn’t mean women aren’t making significant strides and clearing a path for others to follow.

During a June 6 lunch sponsored by Phillips Lytle LLP, Buffalo Business First sat down with eight female leaders – all listed in the region’s 2023 Power 200 Women – to hear more about their triumphs and troubles, as well as the outlook for the next generation.

They say the office has change significantly in the last few decades, though there’s still plenty of room for improvement. They’re still looking to mentor – both men and women in their fields – while making themselves available through both formal and informal mentoring and sponsorship programs.
