Jim works very closely with clients and their management teams to integrate the tax and financial planning goals of the business operation. He has significant experience in providing his clients with very high level tax consultation in many areas including how to most beneficially structure acquisitions and divestitures. Jim has also been heavily involved with both existing clients and those specially engaged for representation before the Internal Revenue Service and various state taxing authorities.

Jim is a frequent speaker in Western New York on a variety of tax related topics and has both been interviewed on radio and appeared on television to discuss various tax questions. He has been named in Money Magazine as one of the top tax professionals in the country. He began his career with the Internal Revenue Service conducting income tax audits of businesses in Western and Central New York. Prior to joining Dopkins & Company, LLP in 1985, Jim was a senior tax manager with a national CPA firm.
